Overview
The Silicon Valley Chapter, AUVSI will conduct a forum on Friday, January 8, 2010 to review and discuss the results of the recent exercise held at the Naval Postgraduate School. The exercise investigated the effect of unmanned vehicles on emergency response to wild fires and was modeled after Basins and Indian fires in California in 2006. The exercise involved Forest Service fire experts, government emergency management officials, local emergency responders and unmanned systems experts. The forum will also delve into the wider applications for unmanned technologies in public safety. AUVSI intends to continue these exercises in the use of unmanned system technology in public safety, and they will announce the topic for the next exercise at the forum.
Please note that only U.S. citizens and permanent residents may attend this event. Since all NASA Visitor Request Forms must be processed through the Silicon Valley Chapter of AUVSI and then processed by NASA, the registration deadline for all permanent residents is Friday, December 11, 2009. Online registration for U.S. citizen attendees and sponsors ends on January 7, 2010. Registration for U.S. citizen attendees will also be available the day of the event at the door for $20, cash only. Description
On Friday, January 8, 2010 the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) will host the Unmanned Systems Technologies for Public Safety Forum: 2010, An ARA Sponsored Event. The forum will include a debriefing of the Unmanned Technologies Table-Top Exercise 2009 (UTTX 09) that was held at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA on September 15-17, 2009. The presentation will include an overview of the exercise and how it was conducted. The results from the exercise will be presented for the first time at the forum. Each Attendee will receive a copy of the report on the exercise results. In addition, a panel of UTTX 09 participants will discuss their experience from participating in the exercise and their own take away lessons from the event. The forum will also announce the topic for the next exercise sponsored by AUVSI. The forum will support further discussion of the wider applications for unmanned technologies in public safety. In addition to the presentation and panel discussion, there will be an exhibits area where individuals or organizations can display research, applications, demonstration results, or equipment that relate to the use of unmanned systems in public safety. This will be an excellent opportunity for public safety people of all types to meet with unmanned systems developers or operators interested in public safety.
Our panel of UTTX 09 participants are: - Vince Ambrosia, NASA
- Mark Bateson, Draganfly and Sacramento Police Dept. contractor
- Buddy Bloxham, CAL FIRE
- Kyle Snyder, AUVSI (Moderator)
- Tom Zajkowski, US Forest Service
Badge Information
The NASA and Non-NASA (US Citizens and green card holders) participants will be responsible for showing a NASA badge or valid drivers license upon entering the main gate. All participants must check in at Registration and wear the name tag they receive while in the facility. All permanent residents must bring their original I.N.S. green card, valid photo ID, and their passport. Photocopies of any of these documents will not be accepted. Foreign Nationals
Unfortunately, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents may attend this event. Since all NASA Visitor Request Forms must be processed through the Silicon Valley Chapter of AUVSI and then processed by NASA, the registration deadline for all permanent residents is Friday, December 11, 2009.
ANYTIME a foreign national is attending a meeting, seminar, symposium, etc., which deals with NASA technology, business, etc, or the project being discussed, or the meeting/presentation, etc, is PAID for, either directly or indirectly, by NASA, then the visit of a foreign national MUST go through the IVC and Export Compliance offices. This is regardless of where the meeting is conducted. The issuance of a visitor pass is secondary to the visit itself. Approval is still needed, but a pass may or may not be issued as in the case of a meeting outside the Ames fence line. All foreign nationals must submit a Visitor Request form for approval by NASA in order to enter the facility. As the event organizer, the Silicon Valley Chapter of AUVSI is responsible for the submission of all Visitor Request Forms.
